Indigo & Shibori

Learn a variety of shibori-inspired patterns as you explore the deep and wonderful world of indigo. All materials will be provided, although indigo is an amazing way to upcycle your existing clothing, bedding, or other items.

Natural Dye

Dive into a burst of natural color, as you learn about what plants grow locally, mordanting (preparing the cloth), and dyeing for long-lasting color. Depending on the season, the dyestuff may be foraged locally in Washington, DC. Dyeing with plants is a great way to use existing clothing, bed linens, or other items to make them new again.

Flower Pounding

Hapa Zome, or flower pounding, is a Japanese technique where flowers or leaves are literally hammered into fabric. Learn all about the world of natural dye through this incredibly unique experience that allows you the freedom to create your own pattern, plant by plant. Material covered includes mordanting (preparing cloth), which plants work best, and how to achieve the best long-lasting results.

Embroidery 101

Learn how to make a variety of embroidery patterns from a stencil or a freeform design. Easy to learn stitch techniques are implemented to make a unique piece of art!

Rope Coiled Baskets

These easy to make baskets are a great way to spruce up your space with easy storage combined with unique design and decoration. The baskets are made by coiling cotton rope and securing it with embroidery thread as your buil upwards. All sorts of shapes, sizes, and designs are possible!

Cross Stitch 101

This simple stitching technique can be used to make a variety of designs. Make it in a hoop or directly onto your clothing! Multiple designs offered and can be adjusted depending on the holiday or occasion.

Recycled Collage Jewelry

In the spirit of earth-friendly crafts, these collage earrings are made with upcycled materials to create beautiful and unique jewelry designs. Pre-cut materials are provided, as well as a variety of magazines and other recycled paper to make a collage that is entirely your style. Jewelry fixings, beads, and crystals can be added to further elevate your creation.
